We care about sustainability

We know 3D printing, when out of hand, is just another problem for plastic in the world. However, when done right, it can be much better than many large scale production processes.

Biobased Materials

All the plastic in our products is biobased PLA (polylactic acid). Unlike conventional plastic, which is derived from petroleum, PLA is produced through a fermentation process using plant-based sugars. It’s not perfect, and we won’t say it is. But it’s a meaningful step away from fossil-derived materials, and it’s what every product we make is built from.

Optimized Waste Reduction

Multicolor printing generates more waste than single-colour by nature: filament gets purged every time the printer switches colour. We treat waste reduction as a design constraint, and optimize at every step. We also use refillable filament spools, so when we finish a roll, the spool itself doesn’t end up in the bin.

Dedicated PLA Recycling

We collect everything: purged filament, failed prints, prototypes, packaging. PLA can’t go in your household plastic recycling, which is why we partner with Recycling Fabrik GmbH, a German specialist who processes our PLA waste properly. We also purchase recycled PLA from them for part of our production, closing the loop where we can.

We love collaborations, and doing better
